Introduction
Hello, my name is Dorothy Barco Bangert, and this is my best friend, Miss Dixie. Almost nine years ago, we moved to Westminster-Canterbury on Chesapeake Bay, near where I grew up. In 1955, I married a sailor at the Norfolk Naval Base Chapel. We had two sons, five grandchildren, and one great-grandson. Sadly, Bill, my husband of 53 years, passed away in 2008. A few years later, Miss Dixie and I moved here.
During the pandemic, I had very few places to go, so I turned to the YouTube channels on my computer. Eventually, I came upon the fashion and style channels. I must have watched hundreds and become fascinated by the ones about style as we age. One was called “Style At A Certain Age” by Beth Djalali, and I thought it was very good. Beth talked about style and living for women in their fifties, and there are many other blogs coving the life of women in their fifties and sixties which cover the life of empty nest women, widows, etc., but nothing for women in their eighties and nineties who had moved on to widowhood and maybe a retirement community. Finally, I thought that with the help of Miss Dixie, we could create one about our lives and call it “Going in Style.”
I hope to cover how an older woman or man can live in style and grace in their senior years. I will tell you my story and introduce you to some of the residents. We will be in their apartments and hear their stories about their journey. I look forward to hearing from you with any questions you might have.
I would like to thank Westminster-Canterbury by the Bay. They have been most helpful in putting my channel together. My story is my own.
So let’s get started by showing you around and taking you to my apartment.
